Shelbie Ann

When I was about 9, my dad told us to come in the front yard because there was a surprise. We scurried outside to see a beautiful sheltand sheepdog sitting in front of the pear tree. Our years of "puppy dog pyramids" and pleading for a puppy finally paid off. We named her and played with her non-stop. She became part of the family in a matter of seconds, becoming "our" dog.

Shelbie is one of the strongest dogs out there. She survived a vicious attack by a german sheppard and is always so very happy to see us walk in the door. She chases water coming from the hose. She chases thunder. She barks only to get attention and is the sweetest and smartest dog I've met.

My mom told me that Shelbie, a purebred who is 11 1/2 years old (born on national friendship day!) is going to be put down tomorrow, and it breaks my heart again and again. She will forever be a part of my family, and I know she'll no longer be in pain anymore.

UPDATE: Shelbie is still here, and on her way to Utah! :) Due to a turn of events, Shelbie is blessings the lives of my family, one day at a time. The doctor found some better medicine for her and she's doing great! :)

Shelbie and I this summer. She was playing in the dirt and chasing water from the hose.
