Barclay Lake

At the beginning of July, Mikalla and I opened a hiking guide and chose a hike to go on since both our husbands were hard at work and Mikalla had the day off. We chose Barclay Lake! We decided it didn't seem too long or strenuous to be starting after lunch time, and off we went!

Once we got to the turn off, the road got super fun. There were giant rocks or plummeting holes that I got to avoid. We drove along this less than fantastic road for a while until we got to the parking lot. We started our hike which was very shaded and had monstrous vegetation on all sides. Some of them were spiny and I even high-fived a leaf bigger than my face, only to learn that there were minuscule thorns on the top of the leaf as well. Win. This hike was very easy and had no elevation gain so it was very pleasant.

We got to cross a log bridge. That was quite fun! Something I love about the PNW is the color of the rivers here. There are always light blue or crystal clear waters rushing through them! A quick bit later, we found Barclay Lake. It was nestled up to the backside of some dramatic mountain cliffs and we could see snow up there. We walked around the lake and saw a makeshift bed made of long leaves. We ate some snacks and started our journey back.

thankfully we didn't need to use a bathroom...
It was a beautiful day for a hike! It was made even better by a stop at the Sultan Bakery for some desserts later on, and we got some fresh cherries from a fruit stand on the side of the road! YUM!
