A Hedgehog, A Leak, and a Tree

This post should have been written last weekend, but it was crazy.

First of all, we are proud owners of a 4 month old girl hedgehog named Evangeline. We love her, and love to hate her all at the same time.
From last weekend when she was still pretty shy.
She is so fun to play with when she uncurls from her protective ball and lets us hold her. We put her on the coffee table and watch her run around the edges mustering up the courage to jump off and explore the ground. Evangeline has done this once, under my watch. She ended up stuck under the couch and it was hard to get a spiky thing out from under the heavy couch.

The hate part? She has a wheel she runs on...and poops on. She is messy, but thankfully it only takes 20 minutes to clean up. She is also nocturnal, so that means she likes to play at night and comes out on her own about 15 minutes after we decide to go to bed. So convenient.

So that's our new pet hedgehog. Come play with her?

Last weekend, water started coming up through our shower drain, which was terrible. It's because our landlady doesn't like to fix problems completely, and so the tree roots in the drains clog up and every year flood the apartment we are renting. Terrible. And she doesn't deal with it until it floods. Anyway, that happened Saturday, so we spent our day hiding Evangeline at our friends and finally bought our Christmas tree late at night when the plumbers and such had left. It was a nightmare, but thankfully none of our stuff got ruined.
