If You Missed Out On the News...

...we made it to Seattle! It's neat and overcast a lot, and pretty chilly for a summer day!

So, Saturday morning we (Ian, me, his mom, dad, and brother) left Logan around 8 am in the big yellow truck and our blue car. We exited Utah, drove across Idaho and made it to Washington without tears and without any problems (except for the check engine light on the big yellow truck that stayed on the entire trip). We got to Kennewick around 6 and stayed there for the night with friends the Binks knew in Reno. We were really grateful to stay there and play with their dog River.

Sunday morning, we slept in and enjoyed a nice homemade breakfast. We drove the five hours to our new home, and got many prayers answered when we toured our apartment for the first time, had free parking right out front, and found free parking during the week a street over. We unpacked all the boxes in about two hours, returned the big yellow truck, and started to turn a slightly rundown apartment into a home. By nighttime, everything but the kitchen and bathroom was nicely unpacked.

Monday morning we also slept in because we couldn't leave until the management came and made us copies of our keys. Then, we became tourists and headed to Pike's Place Market and the Seattle Center.

It was a blast to spend the time and explore the city with Ian's family and we are so extremely grateful they came up to help on our big crazy and scary move.

Tuesday, after an interview, we did some more exploring at the university (which I will now call UW) and Alki Beach in West Seattle. It was a perfectly sunny day for it and I was even warm in a pair of shorts. Then the time came, and we tearfully bid the Binks goodbye and were left alone in the big city. We went to ikea to get shelves and a rug, got lost going to Walmart, went to the real Walmart and realized it wasn't as good as Utah, and finally made it home.

Ian hopped the fence and picked the most delicious blackberries for everyone. YUM!

Wednesday we also slept in, and I creeped out the window waiting for he UPS truck to show up. Our apartment is gated and they can't get in to deliver, and we were waiting for the modem so we needed to be there to sign for it. They came and we set it up, and Ian started working. I went down the street to buy screws for our new bathroom shelves and set that up and caught up on all our tv shows. Then, we decided to walk to the far Safeway and QFC, which was neat because we walked up fraternity row and they have the greatest houses! On the way back we took cool stairs up.

Today, after Ian finished working, we went to the Burke Museum about five blocks from our apartment. I learned it was free the first Thursday of every month so we went and enjoyed! It was so fun to learn about the native Americans from this area and to see all the great fossils and such.
Ice Age anyone?

We are having a great time and are still adjusting. We're hoping there will be some neat people at church Sunday who want us as their friends. We'll see what happens I guess.

  1. Oh my gosh you look like you're having so much fun! I'm sure it's a hard adjustment but I'm sure it'll be worth it.
