On Friday, one sweet girl came up to me and said, "Mrs. Binks, in fourth grade, you go through too many pencils!"
It was so funny and she was extremely sincere. However, it is true...not because they have to write til six pencils don't exist anymore, it's because they sharpen and sharpen their pencils. It's a habit that is terrible to break. Some kids even break their pencils so they can stop working to go sharpen it. And don't get me started on the kids who love glitter pencils, which don't sharpen in the standard setting, or the kids who love sharpening both ends so they don't have an eraser. Goodness.
Today I caught a note being written, and being the nosy and mean teacher I am, I took it and told the girl we couldn't pass notes in school. Looking forward to the juicy gossip that would be contained inside, I read it. It said "someone told me the world was made of macaroni so." She didn't finish writing it and it makes no sense and I thought it was hilarious that it was important enough to write on a note and pass around.
Even though some students drive me a little crazy, the little comments and things that a lot of kids do make me laugh, and remind me I love having fun with students daily.
Also, snow update: In case you don't happen to be trapped in the frozen tundra of Logan, we got dumped on yesterday. So last week we had freezing rain and ice, and we started this week with an extra 8 inches of snow everywhere. It's too much. However, I caught Ian off guard and told him I'd play in the snow with him (if anyone knows me well, get cold and wet are not desires in my heart). We built a cute (mostly awkward) punk snowman with carrots for eyes and a nose, and branches for hair, a mouth, and arms. It was pretty fun, even when Ian knocked me over into the snow. I'm glad that we can have good times and still tease each other, even when we're old and married. ;)
