One day, I thought it would be interesting to take notes of my day. It turned out much harder than I thought it would be. I ended up quitting, and having to go back and fill in a few things. Also, huge lack of details, yet mildly interesting. Enjoy?
A Tuesday in January:
6:35 leave home
6:41 get on highway, realize I am wearing slippers. 2nd time this year!
7:15 arrive at school
7:30 copies, run upstairs because downstairs is broken
7:55 copies and edits in agenda
8:00 video club
8:15 start video club, only ½ present
8:55 end meeting, rush back to classroom to get ready for 5th graders
9:00 colleague catch up
9:05 school starts
9:05-9:19 remind students the time (clocks out), collect math tests and hear reasons they don’t have it signed or forgot it at home
9:20 attendance, 4 students absent
9:21 student says “I feel not alive”
talk with our great math ea about activities she can lead and help with
9:22 two are now tardy-change attendance
9:23 directions for math rotations and problem solving assignment
9:25 group time
10:20 review problem solving-students share
10:32 meet on rug with poem
10:33 read poem by Gary Soto & make inferences
10:49 give directions for sticky note exit slip
10:50 recess-check email, sift through piles on desk
10:52 open gift from a student, write thank you card for Starbucks gift card-wonder if it was a late Christmas gift?
10:56 organize graded work packets, talk with celebration specialist about camp activities (still two months away at this point)
10:57 grade student’s math test that was absent the day of the test & record
11:00 bell for recess, grab small group plans for reading-yellow group
11:05 realize some of yellow group is at SAGE, confer with students individually instead
11:29 catch up with a student who will miss two days later this week
11:31 collect sticky note assignment
11:35 students to music, talk to office about website and video club updated section, grade papers, collect materials, create poster, answer emails...
12:03 rush to bathroom
12:07 discuss my comfortable shoes with another coworker, share they’re slippers
12:08 record problem solving scores
12:15 pick up students, planner, review landmarks for homework
12:27 check email, continue grading
12:35 check printer to see if I printed anything (i can never remember) and head in for lunch
