Life Lesson #473.92

Here's the thing. You can buy some sweet and cheap textbooks online. You can do it three weeks before school starts. The only problem is that you don't know for sure when they're going to come.

That being stated, I have been in quite a predicament. I have all of my textbooks except for my Social Studies in Elementary Education or some silly title like that book. I have a two page response paper due tomorrow. The book is not here. The book is not on reserve at the library (double checked) and is for sale in the bookstore for $50 more than I got it for. So, I checked with girls in my class that I knew and could contact...no luck. I checked with people who took it last semester...no luck. I even checked the mail three times today. You get the picture. I was desperate. I do not like late assignments and my program hates the people who turn assignments in late, so I avoided that at all costs.

So there I am, after my 3 1/2 hour science class, sitting in the bookstore, trying to furiously read my book before I get caught. Of course, this textbook has no pictures and small black font. No good. I got 10 pages in and an employee kindly tells me you can't do homework in the store. I explain to her that the assignment is due at 8 am the next morning and my book definitely won't come until after then since the ail already came. She says she'll check. I think I'm in the clear and this college student took pity on me. 3 minutes later she returns, no pity party invitation in hand. So, I leave able to do 1/2 my homework. If you know me, that isn't good enough.

So, I go back a little later and decide to scheme the bookstore because it's pretty much the spawn of Satan anyway, stealing money from poor college kids. My plan: buy the stupid book, read it, and return it the next day, getting my money back. So, I do just that, and then they tell me the bad news. I can only get a full refund if I drop the class. H to the NO. I'm not dropping a class to return the book to get kicked out of my program. No way Jose.

Moral of the story: I got screwed by the bookstore, the mail system, and cheaper books. Result? I technically own two social studies books. Oh goodness.

  1. Ah no! That really sucks. The book store is evil. I can't believe that employee was such a nasty person. Campusbookrentals.com is a great place because they can get the book to you within a day or two after you ordered the book. Plus it's at a cheaper rate and you can return it way after the semester is over. I'm sorry you got into that tangle. :(

  2. That sucks! Can you return the Amazon book when it comes?
